‘THE ‘STRUTTING MONK,’ THE ‘NO RULE SCHOOL’ & THE ‘ATTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCE’

(A TRUE STORY)

It is alleged, that SOTI’s FOUNDER – once saw a monk - Whistling cheerfully – as he ’strutted,’ through the Temple precincts, - hands in his pockets - whistling a tune the Founder did not recognise –

He approached the monk: -

“Why are you so cheerful?” – He asked

“My Teacher has just told me about the SOTI – NO RULE SCHOOL! – and I feel – Happy - ‘LIBERATED!’

“Have you applied it yet” – The Founder queried?

“No – But isn’t it just – WONDERFUL!”

“Well – If I were you – I would cut out the whistling and return to ‘EQUIPOISE’ –

I see your hair is still black – but the ‘No Rule School Principle’ has doubled your consideration of every action – because now you must know the ‘Axiom’ ‘Law,’ ‘Principle’ ‘Rule’ to apply - but now you must also consider whether, you should ignore it. Granted it gets easier with time – But by then your hair will have turned grey!”

COMMENTARY

SOTI teachings embrace the concept of the – “No rule school,” being an extreme expression of the recognition that every ‘logical system’ if it is to avoid becoming incestuous, devouring itself in its own logic – must provide for the ‘exception.’

The extreme expression of the ‘no rule school,’ would be the ‘Lawless School” or “Chaos School.”

SOTI Teaching are neither of those, since it recognises, the elements of ‘Law’ and ‘Order’ as being necessary and fundamental elements in the ‘ordering principle itself, a necessity of any ordered ‘system.’

If SOTI Teaching is not a ‘lawless system’ or ‘chaotic system’- what then is the ‘criteria for exceptions?’

Quite simply it is the ‘attenuating circumstance’ (1) as that ‘Term’ is understood in The Science Of Abstract Consciousness.

The term – ‘attenuating’ is therefore a circumstance such – that it is indeed an “appeal to a higher paradigmatic norm.” Also implicit in this, even though not necessarily declared – is that it is ‘necessary.’

Then and only the can an established SOTI ‘Axiom,’ ‘Law,’ ‘Principle’ or ‘Rule’ be broken.
