COMMENTARY

​

What is being tied?  Is it a tie, as in the western tie?  Is it the tie, a belt - a part of the monk's garb / garment?  The reader should check him or herself, since it is likely they will have already 'slipped' into a understanding other than having 'stepped' into one.  The latter being one of 'Conscious,' 'Awareness,' 'Deliberation,' 'Intent' and 'Will' - and then forming an impression of the context and what is to follow. 

 

Such is the power of meaning and how meaning shapes words and Consciousness.  But SOTI  teaches - "Consciousness is meaning" (SOTI Collected Works, Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja.)  See how once a meaning has been ascertained, the 'logic' of meaning is just as powerful as the 'logical structure' of the 'reasoning.'  Thus in SOTI, applying the Principles of The Science Of Abstract Consciousness, is divided into 2 parts - 'Structure' and 'Content' - with 'Structure' determining the 'logical reasoning' and 'Content' - the 'logical meaning.'  With perfect understanding, both 'logics' work in synergy and alignment.  Without 'perfect understanding' they can diverge - with 'logics' moving like squirming worms or maggot and both 'reasoning' and 'meaning' going awry.  

 

In SOTI we seek Consciousness as being expressed in the phrase - "Meaningful Meaning" (SOTI Collected Works, Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja.)

"Monk 3: Some men get their wives to choose and tie their ties."

With the third monk's entry - we see again, the power of the 'logic of meaning,' he too is seduced by the context of the meaning - whatever that is? - and note, how his contribution embellishes and ornates the already existing 'logic of meaning.' 

 

Now, if the logic of meaning has started to go awry - this process is amplified - thus can be seen the dangers of 'gossip' and 'tittle tattle' - where a contribution made and additional contributions made, add to the dangerous dynamics of such activities.  Therefore SOTI teachers that -  "when contributing in speech in a matter not initiated by you - be careful and make sure you understand what is being said, for in your contribution, you embellish either Truth or Falsehoods..." "Master: Are they then men?"

​

In understanding the Master's question, there are two approaches to this statement, since its apparent obscurity enables such an approach;

​

(1)  The Transcendental Approach and 

(2)  The Mundane Approach

​

TRANSCENDENTAL APPROACH

​

The Master in adopting the Transcendental position, to him it matters not whether it is a tie or bow being tied, a monk's garb / garment being knotted - a wives contribution or a wives contribution to her husband's sartorial elegance.  

​

The statement "Are they then men?" is the recognition that ultimately all our actions can be defined as a duality;

​

(1)  Do they tend to make us 'men' (humans)? Or  -

​

(2)  Do they tend to make us not men (humans)?

​

and that is it!  That is his sole concern at this 'transcendental level.'

THE MUNDANE APPROACH

​

At a 'mundane level' we can make a observation to the Master's comment, in respect of the Master's comment, it is said that some men allow their wives to both choose and tie their tie.  Thus, it seems there is no scope for the man to express his manhood?  For no one irrespective of gender - man or woman, should give up all control of any aspect of their Existence, thus in this mundane / everyday sense, the Master comments.  For to allow your wife to choose your tie, is one thing - but to allow her to both choose and tie your tie, is another.
