COMMENTARY
​
The fact that someone disagrees with you ‘takes’ you both nearer to the Truth - in fact, the ‘disagreeable one’ has an obligation to continue being disagreeable - thus the word ‘take’ is used (obliged) - implying obligation.
​
Can we see the importance and significance of this aphorism - ‘the disagreeable one’ - in modern times? Yes indeed we can.
​
Nowhere is a failure to understand this principle clearer - than in the realm of social media. For there are those and I would say, it is the majority at this point in time, who believe that Truth only is pursued - when they ‘follow,’ ‘join,’ ‘associate,’ with those who share their views.
​
Therefore the gravamen and paradox of this aphorism - is that in the pursuit of Truth - it is ‘the disagreeable one,’ which should be sought?
​
