"Why are you looking at my finger

when you should be looking at the moon?"

But your face is the moon -

and your eyes are the stars."

COMMENTARY

This SOTI Aphorism is an acknowledgement and extension of a very wise and powerful aphorism (for details - click here) here the author takes that aphorism, deconstructs it, reassembles it - in that new reassembled, it commences with the opening line -

"Why are you looking at my finger..."

In this line we have an errant student who has failed to observe the Buddhist aphorism and is staring at the finger.

"...when you should be looking at the moon?"

This second line confirms that the origin of Wisdom is based on that Buddhist text, for those who are aware of this Buddhist aphorism it should be clear and if it is not, something in their Consciousness should jar and cause them to THINK!

In Buddhist terms this would be styled 'right mindfulness' and thus through this sentence, the reader is transported (potentially at any rate) into the world of Buddhism.

For those who are unaware of this famous Buddhist aphorism - a reading of this commentary should be sufficient to 'direct' their 'minds' and 'senses' so that with a little effort on their part, they too can be 'transported' into that wonderful world which is the world of Buddhism - such is the way with the Science Of The Immortals (SOTI), that "We care not from whom we receive precious gems of Wisdom" (SOTI, Collected Works - Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja.)

"But your face is the moon - "

There are some who detract from the importance of 'The Divine,' but there is no necessary conflict between 'The Divine' and 'The Abstract,' yes - 'abstraction; and the 'seeking of the abstraction' and its compilation into a discipline - such as mathematics can be very beneficial, but of what use is it if the essence of 'The Divine' is lost.

Thus, in this line it is remembered that however 'abstruse,' 'abstract,' 'metaphysical,''occulted,' 'alchemic' - the work or action, there must be somewhere secreted an essence of 'The Divine.'  Thus the 'errant student,' though 'errant' in one manner (namely in the finger) scores highly in an understanding in this 'Essence Of The Divine' - is lost.

Using a 'Christian Key,' one is reminded by way of analogy, the comment of the Lord Yeshua (Martha and Mary performing different functions.)  Thus it should be remembered and noted by individuals that an apparent failing in one aspect, can be 'remedied' and 'completed' in another.

"...and your eyes are the stars."

The same comment as before applies, this comment further expands on the 'cosmic,' 'celestial' and 'analogical' aspects of this short aphorism.
