COMMENTARY

​

Line 1: “All things are as they should be”

 

This line could be said to represent the SOTI view of stoicism - one could argue whether the word ‘should’ or ‘ought’ - to be - is preferable. 

 

The choice of ‘should’ rather than ‘ought’ in Line 1 is made, since the word ‘ought’ suggests more of a ‘judgment’ of an ‘Event,’ ‘Circumstance,’ ‘Situation’ or ‘Happening’ (these are the technical descriptions used for ‘an occurrence in time,’) than ‘should.’  

 

Line 2: “Cos’”

 

‘Cos’’ - is some form of colloquial expression of the English Language meaning because.  It is clear that the author is also making a reference to The Cosmos.  So - it is The Cosmos which is responsible for all that ‘was,’ ‘is’ and ‘will be.’  In keeping with SOTI’s deep ‘metaphysical’ and ‘abstract’ position - SOTI simply defines The Cosmos as “The Executive” of ‘Absolute Consciousness’ (SOTI Collected Works, Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja.)

 

Stoic moral and ethical philosophy - ‘stoic attitude’ - is central to SOTI philosophical thought - and it is this philosophical thought - this approach to the world - which becomes infused in its ‘Metaphysical Laws, Principles, & Teachings,’ applied to The Cosmos as a whole.  However stoicism’s incipient ‘fatalism’ is more than matched, by SOTI’s Cosmic perspective, which includes a belief in a ‘equitable’ and ‘just’ ‘Cosmic Order.’  Thus SOTI philosophical teaching can be regarded as a ‘Cosmic Stoicism’ and therefore having practical Cosmic consequences.
